Advantages of Cast Iron for Sewerage Pipes

EXCELLENT FIRE PROTECTION
Cast iron can withstand temperatures in excess of 1000°C. In one documented case, a low rise office complex was burnt out and rebuilt using the original pipework. Only repainting and new seals were required. Cast iron pipes provide a 4 hour fire rating up to 150mm diameter and two hours for pipe above 150mm. The modular system, using socket and spigot fittings with a rubber seal, greatly reduces heat transfer along the pipe, and requires no extra expense on fire collars or other costly protection methods.

SAVE ON SPACE
Space is at a premium on every site and cast iron offers many attractive space-saving options: it can be fabricated and so allow many branches to be positioned in close proximity; or a multiplicity of fittings can be used, enabling the plumber to select from a wide range of fittings to suit the particular job. Crevet new Nu-Joint is a great space saver. Its small size reduces the amount of space needed to the absolute minimum.

ABRASION RESISTANCE
The abrasion resistance qualities of cast iron are proven. No other piping material can withstand decades of wear and tear, marking cast iron the most durable and cost effective solution for all your pipe needs.
EXTREMELY LOW EXPANSION
Cast iron has an extremely low coefficient of expansion, much lower than all other metal and plastic systems. It needs no costly expansion joints, thus eliminating the risk of system failure.

THE QUIETEST PERFORMER
Out of all the materials used for the installation of drainage and sewerage systems, cast iron has by far the lowest sound emission level - a claim proven by extensive on-site testing at the Australian Acoustic Laboratories. To achieve the same level as cast iron, other materials need to be insulated - so adding to the cost and time required for installation.

UNMATCHED STRENGTH
The inherent strength of cast iron makes it virtually indestructible. Its outstanding strength and superior resistance to crushing makes it ideally suited for areas such as car parks. In car parks, stack risers manufactured from cast iron require no costly protection barriers.

LESS CLIPPING REQUIRED
The inherent strength of cast iron combined with its self-supporting jointing method means fewer clips are required to maintain perfect alignment and support.
